thanks for your reply however I am not yet convinced, Pigeard gives in his book about Napoleon's army:
Ils dépendent de l'arme de l'artillerie et sont organisés comee les ouvriers, alltogehter 6 companies were formed.
About Ouvriers d'artillerie he states that originaly 15 companies were formed which were increased to 19, the 19e was called compagnie d'ouvriers étrangers.
I am usually very reluctant to use dicitionries for military terms in case they are not in line with the time, even then one can be mislead, like the Prussians used the expressions Stiefeletten - litteraly small boots and what did they mean with that - gaiters.
