Re: Emperor's Pay
In Response To: Re: Emperor's Pay ()

Bonjour Ron,
You understand that in this message of the forum one cannot
give all the answers (Only one book on this subject). My knowledge abou is also very restrict.

In short:

As 1° Consul in year VIII he recieved 500 000 F per year.

As Empereur he had:
A civil list of 25 000 000 F per annum of which he says to have made 12 million franks per annum of economy.
A property known as of the ‘domaine de la couronne ‘ (of the crown)
Another known as ‘Domaine d’extension’
His private ‘Domaine’

The « Domaine de la couronne « and « Domaine d’extension » was property of France. He had no right about, just the use while Emperor
He believed that he could use the goods of his private domaine,
estimated according to him at 200 million Franks (the treasurer
of his private Domaine was the Baron de Labouillerie):
Thus :

1) the 12 million X 14 years = 168 million

2) He gave to France the diamonds of the crown at the time of his
1° abdication in 1814. He claims that between 500 and 600 000 F in diamond
belonged to him

3) He had with the Italian Banker Torlonia from 2 to
300.000 franks in bill of exchanges, products of his incomes of
the island of Elba (moreover he claims that this banker was a ' without character ' )

4) He had 2 million of gold (given to Marie Louise in 1814 near
Orleans). It seems that the dear Marie Louise put the gold in his pocket .

5) He gave to Eugene, at the time of the liquidation
of his civil list of Italy money, the jewels, silverware,
linen, pieces of furniture, stables, for an amount of 2 million

Moreover he had 300 000 franks in gold and silver à Sainte Helene.

Also he had six million given to the banker Laffitte in 1815.
Marchant speaks about it in his memories.

Louis XVIII will incorporate all the domaines in his civil list.

---------------------- I am so sorry for my English, this is the text in French
