Prussian officers' numbering

In the Prussian army before and after 1806/7 it was common practice (found also in the army lists) that officers with the same name and rank (Premier- and Sekonde-Lieutenants were considered as being of the same rank in this respect) were numbered within their regiments - and generals between themselves. The older in rank had the lower number.

The Roman numbers were spoken as "der erste", "der zweite" etc. (the first, the second ...).
