A very good posting. The financial motive should never be overlooked.
It was probably the prospect of half-pay and no more opportunities for loot under the Restoration which made the army welcome Napoleon in 1815.
I wonder what they would have done if he had in fact managed to negotiate with the Allies and there had been no war? He couldn't have afforded to pay them in peace time any more than the Bourbons could.
