Re: The Great Man Theory of History

TJ (or whatever that stand for)

<< around here the current theory that commands the greatest respect is "impersonnal forces" which argues that the things that shape history are outside the ability of humans to impact except for an occasional event here and there. As my old major professor used to put it "Apparently there ain't no 'his' in 'history'." I'm a little skeptical of trying to simplify anything as complicated as "history" with a single cause.>>

How about Greece and Alexander the Great ? How about Rome and Julius Caesar or Octavianus ? How about Emperor Charles of Spain ? How about France and Napoleon ? How about Germany and Bismarck ? How about Germany and Adolf ? Russia and Stalin ? and I'm quoting only those examples who are known to practically everybody, but you can also mention Italy and Garibaldi, China and Mao, etc. etc. etc.

Best regards
