it being Christmas, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and presume that you refer to a certain now-retired academic who once worked in "Foggy Bottom" and I don't mean George Washington University (though it won't be long before they own all of it). In which case I must correct you - he wasn't actually an employee at Foggy Bottom and the error predated his employment there! Almost all the "employees" that I know there did know the difference between different systems of measurement (perhaps you were confusing Foggy Bottom with NASA?)
