Biezun, 23 Dec 1806

Marshal Bessieres relates to the Emperor that he has discovered from enemy deserters that a force of 8 infantry regiments, 12 pieces of artillery and 15 squadrons of cavalry has moved on Biezun to recapture the bridges there. In the subsequent battle of Biezun these are defeated by an almost entirely cavalry force...how? I'm at a lost as to how a determined infantry force with artillery support can be scattered by a bunch of dragoons? Were these jager units?

A second question is the Marshal refers to offerred assistance from the Prince of Ponte-Corvo of several infantry companies, but footnote says 4 companies from the 6th Light (2 carabiniers and 2 voltigeurs under capitaine Roussel) were assisting. It notes this from a letter from Marshal Ney. Marshal Bessieres continues to talk about assistance from the 1st Corps in subsequent dispatches...was there infantry support at Biezun and if so who provided?
