kenn, nice to see threads coming together, if he had made it thru waterloo no doubt the couronne de fer would be shown as well as Commanders cross around neck, the C d F is a very rare award and worth looking into as to why given, your info re his type of cross also shows he was held in high esteem, one point thou, most french officer like to add awards to portraits or if not them, there decendants, this guy has all the awards ie Comm/C d F/ cross + general rank,do you know his family history ?. the cross looks as though painted on after portrait finished ?, wondered if it was done when promoted to colonel 05? and cross added in 07? but anyway a great item.
