Re: Royal Navy casualties in Nap. Wars

In Rodgers' The Wooden World he cites figures for single-ship actions and notes the discrepancies between British and French losses (p. 57), eg:

Bellona 74, 6 dead 28 wounded versus Courageux 74 240 dead 110 wounded
Achilles 60 2 " 23 " v Comte de San Florentin 60 106 d & w
Lively 20 2 " 0 " v Valeur 20 38 d 25 w
Dorsetshire 70 17 d 60 " v Raisonnable 64 110 d 220 w

The author discusses possible reasons for the discrepancies. I can let you have the rest of the figures if you like. There are other figures in the book of causes of death of captains. I imagine the book is reliable because Rodgers footnotes the sources of all the figures.
