There's a well-known Australian General Blamey (Thomas Albert) who was born in 1887 I think - served at Gallipoli etc etc. Seems like a long shot but you know how the army runs in families. I've always been rather fond of this chap because there's a statue of him near where I work which represents him standing up, holding a part which he's torn off a jeep - that's what it looks like, anyway.
