Thomas Blamey was the only Australian soldier to reach the rank of Field Marshal. His ancestors were of Cornish working class origin, so it seems unlikely that he had an ancestor who was a British army officer during the Napoleonic wars. Blamey is very much a Cornish surname, so it would be surprising if this Captain Blamey was connected with the Lancashire Fusiliers: although this could raise an interesting question- to what extent was the county affiliation of officers reflected in the regiments they served in during that period?
