Lieutenant's pay?

Thanks Guy. That sounds plausible. How does it compare with the normal pay for a lieutenant? I've actually got the book, but hadn't thought to look at it for this, except to check that Leslie wasn't among the officers listed. I see that Cox and Fitzmaurice both appear. Seventy pounds was pretty miserable - not enough to live on even very modestly, but even so the cost of pensions and half pay weighed very heavily on the government's budget in the postwar years.
