Then there's the story of Fusilier Lallebinque of the Garde of Paris answering the challenge of a personal bayonet 'duel' from a Russian grenadier and killing the Muscovite.
Two battalions of the Garde of Paris were lost at Baylen in 1808. Grenadiers from one of the battalions at Danzig waded out into the Vistula to capture the grounded British sloop-of-war Dauntless.
Some were also at Burgos in 1812.
They were disgraced in the Malet Conspiracy in 1812 and were retitled the 134th Ligne. The Garde's dragoon squadron, however, had opposed the conspiracy and were reassigned to the 2d Lancer Regiment of the Imperial Guard.
