From the work I did on the army lists they have at the National Army Musuem, there are some key dates and regiments to cooncentrate on that give the picture without needing to do all of the possible units.

The 51st or 52nd regiment give a good view of early changes and later from a standard regiment transitioning to light.
Someone such as the 4th for the years 1803 onwards to contrast with the regiments who converted to lights.
The 1st as an existing multi battalion regiment.

If I remember rightly there are key changes around 1798 at the higher level and 1808 at the lower level. Different regiments making transitions at slightly different times.
[A highland regiment for the seven years war is also worth taking as a pointer to some of the 1800+ changes being based on much earlier practice]

Unfortunately the Excel data file I had of the lists 1757 to 1815 was the victim of a virus and no longer exists, but I have some handwritten notes I made; if these would be of help contact me offline.
