Re: Off Topic Question

Hi Gunter

Can you suggest any books where I might obtain information on the Imperial Army's peacetime organization just prior to the start of World War I.

I have the regular army, but am interested in the Reserve, Landwehr and Ersatz units which were assigned to the Corps. Many were not mobilized or assigned to the armies at the start of the war and so are not detailed in the books I can research.

For example, within the VII Corps area are:

VII Corps [Westphalia]

13th Division
14th Division

VII Reserve Corps

13th Reserve Division
14th Reserve Division

25th Ersatz Brigade: 25th; 26th; 27th; 28th; 79th Ersatz Battalions

25th Landwehr Brigade: 13th & 15th Landwehr Regiments
27th Landwehr Brigade: 53rd & 55th Landwehr Regiments

Unbrigaded: 16th, 56th & 57th Landwehr Regiments

It is noted that there were 14 Reserve Corps of 31 Reserve Divisions with some 20 Ersatz and 30 Landwehr Brigades available.

Happy New Year.

Regards,

Ron.
