Errr...I am confused about your point, but surely the query's answer is not limited to just one person. Further, if the question can be refined successfully, it could obtain the most accurate answer.
Frankly, there is no dead-space immediately in front of the piece if the ammunition is canister. (Do you think that is incorrect?)
If firing shell, there certainly will be a dead-space for at least the duration of the fuse's burn; moreover, depending on the range to the target and the elevation necessary to reach it, the trajectory of the shot could well rise above a lethal elevation.
So I suggest that clarity about which ammunition is under consideration is relevant to the answer.
