I agree allix's work on the french artillery is informed by practical experiance, and has perhaps more value than the works of Gassendi and Scharnhorst. Gassendi was a desk based officer from 1800 and had no field experiance of the AnXI guns, making his views prejudiced through lack of experiance and understanding. his knowledge stemming from accounts and written reports than practical experiance. Allix's work shows the practical differences between Gribeauval, AnXI and his new system as well as tests of ammunition. Under the AnXI reforms only heavy cannister was used but of mixed size of balls.
