The Ballistic tests for AnXI guns initially were not fair tests. A second series of tests were run in 1819 which were fair as each gun tested was fired on its own service charge. Alas, I have not yet found any cannister tests. The data from 1819 was merely accuracy firing round shot.
I have more ballistic tests from Strasbourg from 1802, which shows the superiority of the 6-pdr to the 8-pdr carried out by Griois, Eble and others. And a set of data tested by Gassendi which shows the reverse of these tests. As Dr Summerfield says, the tests were done to proove a point and rigged to support the views of the reformists in favour of AnXi guns or the conservatives who wanted the Gribeauval guns.
