I am referring to the two cannister designs introduced under the AnXI committee.
The first design was 41 ball for the 12-pdr, and a 57 ball for the 6-pdr and the 24-pdr howitzer. Under the1807 reforms of AnXI, the cannister became 41 ball for all calibers.
The description of how the previous design of cannister was made is taken from the AnXI committee notes I have previously referred to. Remember de scheel is writing about the Gribeauval system before 1789. In 1789 Comte De rostaign and General Manson carried out a series of changes to the gribeauval system to simplify it. De scheel is based on the work of du Coudray, writing in the early 1770's. The plates de scheel presents are very different to the plates produced by Rostasign and Manson.
In the AnXi notes, the term white metal is used rather than the word tin. France had no tin supplies.
