what I am trying to do is give actual facts about the men who were in the guard in terms of their height, age, combat experaince before entering the guard, details of their career in the guard and where they ended up either in the line, guard or discharged etc.

De Mauduit, Coignet, Bourgogne, Barres, lamon and others are eye witness's to the guard but they gloss over a lot of details on the behaviour of the guard, and service of the guard. Coignet says he was the shortestman in the Guard in 1803/04. I can proove beyond reasonable doubt he was wrong or lying about this. A nice story, but the fact is more than half of the grenadiers at any one time were below the minimum height requirements.His livret states he was 1.74m tall, in 1804 the shortest man in the grenadiers was 1.68m tall.
