Hi Steve,

Sorry - I don't mean to be covering old ground again - I did re-read the old posts on this topic including your previous helpful responses, but did not see the reference to the French using the term 3-lber to refer to Venitian 4-lbers.

My source was then-capitaine de génie Camus de Richemont, who was a pretty keen observer and whom I have found to be fairly accurate.

What made you think he was referring to Venitian 4-lbers?
