The presence of an actual "battalion flag" would have hinged on whether a depot battalion was deemed by the authorities as a formation warrenting one (though it seems unlikely to me that a "depot" battalion would have garnered one) - and I'm beyond my depth with regard to any nation's rules on that score!

But, as David pointed out, for the purposes of training, there would have been no need for a formal colour, as any blanket on a pole would do! I only suggested camp colours since they were ubiquitous in most armies, and used for marking encampment sites and other purposes - by Britain, at least, for reviews as well.
