An interesting work.
For someone wishing Napoleonic siege thinking and practice, note the initial edition of Bousmard's work appeared in 1797, 1798 and 1799 being published in Berlin. Thus, while Bousmard reflects French thinking, he is not putting forth Napoleonic policy.
He died serving the Prussians in their defence of Danzig in 1807 (initially under Laurens who also lost his life during the siege). As he was hit during his morning rounds, it may have been a Saxon, Polish or Baden soldier who fired the shot and not necessarily a French one.
If I remember correctly, the original work did not include the 4th volume, which appeared first with the 1814 Paris edition (in the University library here). - R
