Too, bad, Senarmont was not with them.

In the story on the manoeuvers, Colonel P* was (most likely) Colonel Passinge, Ney's premier aide-de-camp (Dutaillis was chef d'état-major and is not mentioned in the story), who appears to have been jealous of "Monsieur le Suisse" (Ney's phrase; Jomini did not yet wear a French uniform).

Jomini arrived 3 March 1805, the review occurred in the summer of 1805, and Jomini was not named an aide-de-camp to Ney until 3 September 1805.

Jean Lucas-Dubreton (in Le Maréchal Ney, 1765-1815, Paris 1941) wrote: "Mais Jomini persistait dans ses hérésies diaboliques, bien mieux il osait critique sans ménagement les méthodes de manoeuvre du maréchal, en suggérait d'autre qui, à l'épreuve, se révélaient excellentes; et Ney balançait de la mauvaise humeur à l'admiration: ce Suisse difficile, obstiné, avait tout de même des talents."
