Translation help please

My subject‘s journal states that in 1814, during a visit to London by leaders and dignitaries of Europe, the Prince Regent (George IV) called Leopold of Coburg, (later Leopold I of Belgium) ‘Monsieur ’Beu a’ peu’ because of his obvious attraction to the young Princess of Wales, Charlotte, whom he later married. What is this ‘Beu a’ peu’, a small/insignificant suitor or sweetheart? Should it have been Beau a’ peu?
Thanks
