Getting the right DUFF.

I'm trying to locate a Biography of one James DUFF(E), who, according to Army List entries, joined the 3rd Foot (Scots) Guards, as an Ensign on 16 May 1792; Lt. & Capt. on 23 Aug 1794. He was wounded at Ostend in May 1798, & subsequently had completely disappeared from the 1800 Army List, presumedly some time during 1799. Nothing more is to be found after that time, nor any conclusive evidence on the www.

Could he be the James Duff (b1776) who in 1808 was a Major-General in the Spanish army, was wounded at Talavera, & also at Fort Matagorda in the following year, later became the 4th Earl of Fife? Plenty to be found on this latter James Duff, but are they one & the same ?

If not, does anybody have anything further to add on Duff of the 3rd Guards for me please ?
