Is there a 'rule' that someone else cannot post if something is not directed at them? I'm sorry, but some of your postings are rather cryptic and your point(s) are sometimes difficult to figure out. I guess I'm somewhat slow.
A few points, though. Aiming stakes are not an artillery tool-aiming posts are. Even though they are the exact same tool, aiming stakes are employed by mortar units, aiming posts by artillery units. Lanyards were not yet used in firing period artillery pieces, but portfires with slow match attached. My remarks, without the anologies, were made directed at the artillery knowledge we have of the period.
