Most of the events are organized by or around the local institutions like the municipalities, the local museus and associations, etc., many times with the colaboration of the armed forces (which have a program of their own, also). I don't know of any national global program for the commemorations suported by the central government. The british government has any intentions to have any official commemoration?
Here in Portugal the french invasions had a considerable impact in the local populations that's not forgotten... this events are also a form to remind to our young people what happened... and a form of turistic promotion of some of this regions... the politics are of little importance, I think.
