It was mentioned that the majority of those fallen on the field of battle was due to musketry -of ocurse I may digging too deep into the weeds...
But have you taken this into account and the position of the officers when they are in their respected positions in their battalion while advancing?
Different countries have a different percentage of casualties in relationship to officer and soldiers; this is due to fact that the number of officers and their position within the formation are not the same for each country.
Whendealing with musketry you even have you take into account the actual formation of each battalion and their position in the great body of troops.
In your research were you able to determine the position in the great body of troops, of their actual location?
If you have not, then I can give you a text book version from their military system.
We know what a Colonne Vuide looks like, and we have a description of how many battalions were deployed and how many battalions were formed in colonne. All we need is one exact location of a regiment to position all the other regiments, since they would have been formed in accordance to their military system.
With Broussier we do know that the 84e was formed in columns leading the right flank. Therefore it is quite probable that the 29e and 92e were deployed. The 9e followed the 84e in column.
With Lamarque it is quite probable that the 92e bis was deployed, while the 23e was leading the left flank in column, whilst the 18e and 13e followed. Of course there may have been special orders for the 18e leger.
Lamarques division was formed on the left of Colonne Vuide, thus it was acceptable in the military system to form par l’inversion so that the 29e bis would formed on the left of the 92e.
The Regulating battalion would have come from either the 29e or 92e.
Again there are many particular circumstances that would change the military system of positioning a regiment in a great body of troops.
But unless you know exactly where each regiment was positioned, the normal application of positioning regiments in their numerical sequence works on paper.
