Reverse thinking form my part
la division Lamarque occupait la gauche, la division Broussier la droite; le 84e eut ses bataillons en colonne formant la tête de la colonne en droite.
so out of the tree regiments of Broussiert - the 84th is the leading element of the right column part of the colonne vuide.
so what units do form the 4 deployed battalions?
It would leave us only with the 9e (but they have only three battalions) and then part of the 92nd???
This would give no sense in my view - you would not tear apart tactical structures completly.
were the 8 deployed battalions, 4 in front and 4 behind in symmetrie, that is 4 battalions from Lamarque, the other from Broussier, or did Lamarque supply 6 battalions, and Broussier only two?
I would assume that for the easy sake to form the line part of the column you would either use either a complet regiment doubled up by another regiment - or - let a regiment do the doubling, like one battalion in the first, the other in the second line?? But then again you would have to use regiments made up of even numbers of battalions.
For that reason it would be interesting to know the composition of the brigades.
