Thanks for the email: 'You've lost me there' means I had been unable to follow your line of thought.

Now you have explained, I think you have missed the point: it is not a case of Napoleon being attacked for pursuit of military glory. The writer is objecting to the concept of 'military glory' in general and it would appear that the new government and its supporters had been heavily pushing the importance of the army and la gloire There was a reasonable objection, if you read the full work in Ralph's link, to the army being allowed to choose the government.
