Caricature of Napoleon

In 2015, the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo is being commemorated. The battle marked the end of Napoleon Bonaparte. That Napoleon was also the victim of satire can be seen in a pamphlet from the Archives of the City of Brussels.

The pamphlet entitled 'Dix Napoléons pour quatre sous' is a humorous assembly which puts other properties or other headgear on the image of Napoleon. So the emperor appears as a Corsican peasant, a sultan, pope, miller,...

Since taking office, Napoleon curbed the press and censorship was as good as general. In a letter to Fouché, his Minister of Police, he had said: I shall never tolerate the newspapers to say or do anything against my interests.
