I am investigating an incident involving british gunboat nš 23 on the river Ebro in Spain in 1813, during the crossing of that river by the Duque del Parque's army which was following on the heals of Marshall Suchet's withdrawal from the Peninsular.
The master was Leuitenant John Bowie and the gunboat is described as having one cannon, a cabin, and bowsprit shrouds sufficient for several men to dangle from in order to avoid close fire from the french on the nearby river bank.
At the national Archives in Kew they don't appear to have much on gunboats or other vessels, such as transports, which were identified by numbers.
What class of gunboat would this be?
It was big enough to navigate long distances up and down the coast as I have it recorded at Torredembarra a few months before.
