Efficient long range musketry

I did find a few examples, that this could and did happen, I already cited Leger.

In the brilliant work of

Dumas : Neuf Mois de la Campagnes ŕ la Suite de Maréchal Soult - another impressive example is cited, see link

Now - in the foot note Dumas refers to Decker - and especially that the French were masters of long range musketry, I checked Decker, but I cannot find the passage to which Dumas refers.

In case any of the esteemed readers do find that passage, please let me know
