... From Napoleon and Wellington pp. 156/7 ... If only Napoleon had not detached Grouchy with 33,000 troops and 96 pieces of artillery, if only he hadn’t disbanded the Balloon Corps, (Ney) might yet have perceived Wellington’s reverse slope bluff at Quatre Bras and Napoleon might have spotted the impending appearance of Bulow’s Corps and withdrawn instead of fighting at Waterloo. If only ... I thought this was bad enough, but in this first episode Mr Roberts would appear to have become an increasingly ardent fantasist and sycophant since Napoleon and Wellington – his discussion, conclusions and – most of all - lack of impartiality as a scholar is an absolute disgrace. Can't wait to see part II. A
