Anthony, what on earth is the matter? You need to calm down a bit. Your posts are written in such haste/agitation that they do not always read clearly. As you say, one episode down and two more to go. Let's wait and see, and give a reasoned response at the end.
Andrew's description of the looting of Italian cities was perfectly balanced. As you say, the Directory expected the conquered territories to pay for the privilege. That is what has happened through millennia of human history. Do I need to remind a fellow Brit of the utterly appalling record of the British army in Spain - where the cities they savaged were peopled by our Spanish allies. Critics really do need to 'get over themselves'.
On a smaller point, the name Davout was never mentioned in the first episode. Believe me, that is the sort of thing I notice! If you are so set on condemning the series from the outset, you will need to tighten up on the detail.
PS: Have to agree with others on the high quality of the production. And Andrew looks alarmingly like the Emperor!
