So, turned to the Old Lady of Threadneedle Street and found The Bank of England has another number for 1815 to 2014:

79 million

(1 in 1815 is 79.52 in 2014)

That is inflation for services.

Curiously, from 1816 to 2014 it is 87.06 (suggesting deflation between 1815 and 1816 - which is confirmed by the calculator in that the 1815 was only worth 0.91 in 1816).

You are correct about the range from ten years ago being between 55 and 60 - the site gives the number for 1815 to 2004 as 57.99.

Guess the reporter pulled the number from a paper written about 2007 (or so) when the 65 would have been accurate.
