But note, as this was written most likely while in the states, and if similar to other letters to magazines, around 1819, then Grouchy is once again promising to share the Register of the Major General!
He would promise as late as 1829 that his materials would answer all questions!
Then in 1830 his marshal's baton is restored, and he is made a Peer of France by Louis-Philippe! How generous, but for what!?
No mention of the order book again, except to say it was lost in a fire... yet when the copy is published, all materials prior to June 13th are not included, and several key orders that demonstrate Napoleon was misled as to the dispositions of his left wing on June 15th and June 16th are excised, though they are later found in the private archives of the recipients or in Gourgaud's papers... which somehow Grouchy's grandson gets... and when/how did that happen!?
With his reputation in tatters, why didn't Grouchy reveal the order book in its entirety in his lifetime?
No, nothing to see here... move along...
And to note, some are so ignorant as to think its all neatly arranged in the archives and that the full story is known...
What day was Dumoulin wounded/captured!? The 16th?! The 18!? BOTH! HA!
