I was not referring to Baton, I was simply referring to reinstatement... Grouchy jumped to the front of the line, as well as had his Marshal's baton restored, despite much ill will towards him... the quote is just an anecdote of how he being responsible for the defeat became ingrained French culture.

I realize that all of history has the problem of source veracity, but 1815 was very special. Misrepresenting the campaign was part of the ongoing political war for decades... contrast with the controversies with Longstreet versus Lee, which also had a political element... yet nothing like the breath/depth of the 100 days.
