Re: Particulars Regarding Grouchy's Army

Dear Dan,

I thought that Tyrol was offered to Bavaria by Napoleon to weaken Austria, that Austria called them to arms without being able to give them proper support, that the Tyrolians defeated some Bavarian, then French units, then were crushed by massive military power and retaliation against civil population.

It seems to have more to do with politic than logistic. No french unit was "living off the country" at the start of the revolt.

I saw the same flaw in some contribution on Spain : the main area of resistance against France were Catalonia and Navarra, far from any british presence and immediately after french frontier, where french logistic problems were the smallest - but spanish political involvement of population the strongest.

Kind regards,

Jean
