I think you have put your case very well. I congratulate you. Napoleon was a decent, honest soul at heart. At least, I believe so and I second your opinion. Where you fail to appreciate the value of the man is in his understanding of other men's failings. He knew, or at least suspected, the peccadilloes of the likes of Bourrienne and Talleyrand and was prepared to put up with a lot of it for the benefit of his regime. To err is human and Napoleon understood that.
