Susan, I think the same point can be made that posts in favor of Napoleon are often made to counter the "excessive or misguided enthusiasm" against him. I can also say with equal confidence that "much (though not all) of what is said against Napoleon "is not soundly based and constitutes historical myth."
The positive Napoleonic myth has its eqully negative Napoleonic myth. And for every laudatory post here--and elswwhere--there is always one, qnd usually more than one, that roundly condemns.
As wth any polarizing subject, from Napoleon to slavery, there is no absolute truth, but there is a wide variety of opinion based on the available historiical record. I prefer to see Napoleon through a varied prism--good in some respects, average in others, and bad in others, although those terms are not always historically viable. Pity more folks here can't be balanced as well.
