Whether a battle such as Maida is decisive or not must be a matter of definition and perhaps is not worth arguing about overmuch. Maida, although a relatively small affair, is nevertheless an important battle. Prior to this it would be difficult to claim that the British Army had enjoyed much success - quite the contrary. Maida was a great morale booster and confidence builder where the latent superiority of the British Infantry came to fruition. This experience was fairly consistently put to good use not too much later in the Peninsular.
