Oh, come on! I'm hardly "fascinated with" the idea of ghost writers. I mentioned one as a possibility simpy because the sergeant writing this diary seemed better educated than one would expect --unless the Coldstream Guards had high standards for literacy. I've read enough unpublished correspondence from French soldiers of all ranks that was not as polished as that of Sergent Baker, but then perhaps the French were not as well-educated as their British counterparts.
