Just a thought: the etymology is probably

Land = land, sat = sitter

It is equaled to Dutch ingezeer (of which I don't know the exact meaning):

In this source (a Frisian dictionary) they are defined as farmes who are dependent from a local landowner, having leased their fields from the latter:
