Reading your Amersfoort article, I felt for the commander of the Grebbe line who had started to divert waters into the planned areas of inundation, as the French attack became imminent, and the local leaders of Utrecht formed up to complain so he had to shut the sluices again and lower the weirs. They were more concerned about the loss of farmland than the coming of the French.
