John, as one of your "American cousins," I can say that I don't relish tales of Brits going off the rails in any era. I know they exist, as do stories of American "bad moves." And every nation on the planet has many a skeleton in its closet. I think we can all agree on that.
What I get quite weary of reading here--and on other forums, to be candid--are the hide-bound opinions of some that the British could do no wrong, were morally superior, as well as every other type of superiority imaginable, and were God's Chosen Victors between 1789 and 1815 while the French in general and Napoleon [Lucifer] were evil incarnate.
I am equally weary of the same types of opinions expressed that the French, the Austrians, and the Prussians were The Best Evah! Such close-minded views mean the individuals in question will never as long as they breathe recognize that the other side or sides had something positive to contribute.
That's not good historical thinking or analysis, and very bad nationalism.
