INS: Journal Of Napoleonic Scholarship 1998

Message from the Editor

J. David Markham

Welcome to the second issue of Napoleonic Scholarship. We are gratified by the overwhelmingly positive response to the first issue, and hope that you will be equally enthusiastic about our latest effort. In this issue we present papers from four continents and seven countries. To bring to western scholars material never before translated, especially from Russia and Eastern Europe, we offer work by two Russian scholars, translated by Greg Troubetzkoy.

In June of 1997 we held our first International Napoleonic Congress, which also received an overwhelmingly positive response. The papers were excellent, and we offer our thanks to the participants. The organization and hospitality was superb. We all greatly enjoyed the tremendous food, the musical entertainment, and the trips to Milano, Lodi, and Marengo. We offer special thanks to Vittorio Scotti Douglas and Giulio Massobrio for their outstanding work. Without their incredible effort, none of it would have happened.

Our next International Congress will be held in Tel Aviv, Israel, July 2-10, 1999. This promises to be a once in a lifetime event that you will not want to miss. Our next journal is being prepared now. We encourage you to submit paper proposals for both the Congress and the journal as soon as possible.
