Question 1012:

What is the significance of the coin that is part of the logo for the War of 1812 Magazine?

Answer:

The logo for the War of 1812 Magazine consists of the obverse and reverse of the Upper Canada Preserved Medal issued by the Loyal and Patriotic Society of Upper Canada, which were struck during and immediately after the War of 1812 for presentation to deserving officers and soldiers; however most were destroyed in 1840.

A complete history of the medal prepared by Carl Benn appeared in Issue 6, May 2007 of the War of 1812 Magazine, which you can find at
The Loyal and Patriotic Society of Upper Canada and Its Famous Medal
