War of 1812 Weekend

Saturday and Sunday, July 30–31, 2011

Staff at the Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site extends an invitation to 1812 living history units to attend the ninth annual Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site War of 1812 Weekend on Saturday July 30 and Sunday July 31, 2011 at the Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site (NY). Help tell the story of the War of 1812 and the history of your unit to broaden the weekend’s interpretive program.

For the past nine years, this War of 1812 Weekend has brought a renewed interest in encampments at the Site. Many of you enjoyed our highly successful 2010 North American War of 1812 Grand Tactical. We invite living history re-enactors to help us prepare for the War of 1812 bicentennial at Sackets Harbor.

Great publicity draws participants and visitors who enjoy authentic presentations in a lively, fun filled atmosphere.

An environment of safety and authenticity at the Sackets Harbor Site encampment is essential. We adhere to the ‘Guidelines for Black Powder & Edged Weapons Use.’ Commanding officers or NCOs are given instructions upon arrival and a safety meeting is conducted. All participants must register as “volunteers” with NYS Parks.

Sutlers are welcome. Their tents, signs, goods, display racks, visible containers, price markings, and personal appearance must be appropriate for the War of 1812 period.

Please let us know if you plan to join us for the July 30 -31, 2011 weekend!
